As a child, my summers were spent hiking in the White Mountains (New Hampshire).
My grandparents had a farm that was listed as the highest inhabited farm in the White Mountains according to the Appalachian White Mountain Guide which is published by the Appalachian Mountain Club.
My favorite hike was to head over to Pinkham Notch and hike up the Tuckerman Ravine trail to the Lake of the Cloud Huts on Mount Washington, then after a community dinner and singing and a good night sleep, head across the Presidential Range to the Madison Spring Hut for another evening and then down the mountains to hitchhike over to Pinkham to pick up my car.
The High Huts of the White Mountains are open during the summer, closing between September 12 and October 17th.
If you have yet to experience the extraordinary beauty of dancing from summit to summit above the tree line, you may want to head on up to northern New Hampshire for an unforgettable experience.
