Book Review: Dare to be Your Own Boss

“Where your talents and the needs of the world cross, there lies your vocation.” ~ Aristotle

by Catherine Austin Fitts

If I read all the books that I receive, it would be more than a full time job. However, a subscriber sent Dare to be Your Own Boss: Follow Your Passion, Create a Niche by Maya Sullivan earlier this month. I was intrigued by their cover letter: “ This book contains critical information for those Solari subscribers who are considering embarking on the road to self-empowerment.”

I started to read Dare to be Your Own Boss and found it practical, easy going. Sullivan provides a very good overview of entrepreneurial markets organized around types of customers – from wholesale to retail. She lists out the pros and cons of being your own boss and had lots of useful information about thinking through products. She also provides some good ideas on current areas of opportunities and sources of information.

If you are thinking about becoming your own boss, this book is indeed quite helpful in helping you think through and sort out the issues.

According to Inc Magazine the #1 indicator of whether a start up will be successful is whether its leadership has started and run a business before. So you can learn the hard way by doing it, or increase your chances of success by digesting the “lessons learned” of people who have done it before.

If you are thinking about becoming a first-time entrepreneur, you will likely find this book very useful.
