The SEC’s complaint against Goldman Sachs (See U.S. Accuses Goldman Sachs of Fraud) is not the first time that Goldman has been investigated for mortgage market fraud. My company, Hamilton Securities Group, (See Hamilton Securities Litigation) served as financial advisor to the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development with respect to sales of Federal Housing Administration mortgages. Goldman Sachs was a significant winning bidder on the sales.
Goldman Sachs was a co-defendant in a qui tam that triggered the investigation. In the process of spending ten years managing the related litigation and investigations with respect to Hamilton, I developed significant questions about Goldman Sachs conduct with respect to the HUD loan sales and in the mortgage markets.
To this day, those questions remain unanswered.
