The U.S. announces that the federal deficit will hit an all time high, even after keeping the Fannie and Freddie deficits off budget and off balance sheet. Meantime, the dollar is up and gold is off 10+% from the December high. More than a few people are scratching their head and asking “What just happened?”

I am headed over this Thursday to see Franklin Sanders of The Moneychanger at Top of the World Farm in Westpoint, Tennessee. After a lively dinner with the Sanders clan on Thursday evening, Franklin and I will join you for the Precious Metals Market Report on this week’s Solari Report. Indeed, it is a good time to look at fundamentals and intrigue in the global financial and commodities markets.

In Money & Markets I will be covering the financial news:

  • Europe: sovereign debt challenges in the European Union increase central powers;
  • America: the federal deficit balloons, while states consider bankruptcy or federal takeovers as budget balancing options;
  • Asia: global central bankers meet in Australia;
  • Covert Trade Wars: the U.S. wars with Europe over bank data; with China over weapon sales; and protects its GM investment by mugging the leading foreign competitor over safety.
  • Disaster Capitalism: Haiti fundraising grows invasive but is the money getting through?
  • Good News: USDA concedes defeat on the National Animal Identification System (NAIS)

Our team has also prepared a special report on the U.S. 2010 Census and what it means to you.

If there are questions you want me to address in Ask Catherine or to ask Franklin, please post them at the your subscriber cart.

No movie this week. Given what is going on in the markets, I want the time to look at events unfolding and what they mean to you.
