The Power of Law

William Roper: So, now you give the Devil the benefit of law!

Sir Thomas More: Yes! What would you do? Cut a great road through the law to get after the Devil?

William Roper: Yes, I’d cut down every law in England to do that!

Sir Thomas More: Oh? And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned ’round on you, where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This country is planted thick with laws, from coast to coast, Man’s laws, not God’s! And if you cut them down, and you’re just the man to do it, do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I’d give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety’s sake!

Our theme on the Solari Report this week is “the power of law.”

We are watching the world divide between those who believe in the law and those who don’t. The people who believe in the law are sprinkled throughout all groups and all nations. The divide and conquer tactics being used by political leadership have been effective at preventing us from getting together by trying to firm us into specific ethnic, religious or national groupings.

Last night, as a result of a Solari Report subscribers strong request, I finished Against Our Better Judgement by Alison Weir regarding the US role in the creation of the state of Israel. Weir describes the challenges anticipated in the creation that are the roots of the problems we are experiencing in the Gaza today. Weir does a remarkable job of pulling together a wide variety of source materials to provide an important piece of history on the US relationship with Israel.

One of the reasons that I wanted to read it was I had just finished rereading Red Mafiya by Robert Friedman and noted Friedman’s description of the exodus of Russian Mafia into Israel during the literal invasion of Russia during the 1990’s by Western financial interests – the so-called “Rape of Russia.” I wanted to review Red Mafiya because of recent reports that the Russian mafia is playing a leadership role in the drug cartels in Mexico City. Is there any danger of the groups that raped Russia with the help of US investors and intelligence agencies, moving into the United States in a similar manner? What do these transnational organized crime groups have to do with what is happening in the Ukraine, in the Gaza and along the Southwestern United States border with Mexico?

The interesting thing about the events unfolding around the world is that you can not organize the good guys and the bad guys according to all the usual categories. We keep trying to find scapegoats for what is happening. It’s the Masons. It’s the Catholics. It’s the Jews. It’s the Old Wasps. It’s the Immigrants. It’s Women. It’s Men. It’s the Military. It’s the Little Green Men. It’s the rich elites. However, it does not work that way.

The people who believe in the law are right now trapped inside all of these little divide and conquer boxes. So how do we connect and find each other? First and foremost, we find each other by appreciating the law, practicing the law to the best of our abilities and standing up for the law.

Law is the basis of markets, trust and civilization. Don’t worry if those around you are not practicing it. Do it because it is the only pathway through what lies ahead.
